Makeup Brushes & Midlife Mayhem

Tried to look younger with a little makeup trick… ended up looking like a character from a sci-fi movie. Note to self: 25 brushes and no clue what to do with them is a dangerous combo. Ladies, we’re allowed to experiment, laugh at ourselves, and still show up anyway. We’re in this together. 💄💕 .

Mini Monument 1: Makeup Brushes & Midlife Mayhem

Makeup Brushes & Midlife Mayhem

[00:00:00]

Welcome to "Top Down, Heart Open". I'm your host, Kimberly Maturin. This is not a full sit down. Today we're gonna do things a little different. This is what we're gonna call a mini monument. Mini segments that are short, sweet, and straight from the heart. Sometimes I just need a few minutes to tell you a story or share a moment, a laugh about something real.

These are the in-between moments, the ones that make up midlife, the awkward, the real, and the kind that stick with you. They are perfect for listeners who want real talk in bite-sized doses. So take a deep breath, lean in, and let's talk about it.

Okay, so when I started this podcast, I told y'all I was gonna keep it real, and here it is.I've recently decided to dabble in some makeup tricks for women over 40. Nothing too fancy, [00:01:00] just experimenting a bit, but let's face it, our faces change and so do our routines I went for real budget friendly options because I think it's important to try things out without the pressure of perfection spoiler alert, some things were hits and others weren't. Some will never see the light of day.

But at this point, it's about rediscovery having fun and not taking ourselves so seriously. We've earned that. So let's call this mini segment "Makeup Brushes & Midlife Mayhem". So as I said, I decided I was gonna try some of those fancy makeup tricks. You know those for women over 40, the kind where you suddenly glow like you stepped out of a spa and a time machine.

You know what I'm talking about? Yeah. That one. So I go home, get in front the mirror and realized, oh wait, I don't have any of those little fancy makeup [00:02:00] brushes that they all use in the video. I've got one sad looking sponge and a brush. I won't even say from when. So here I go, hopping on Amazon, trying to figure out what I need.

Reading reviews, like I'm about to do brain surgery. Flat brush, angled brush, buffing brush. I'm overwhelmed, but I'm still committed. A few days later, boom, prime delivery happens. All these brushes show up and I'm like, let's do this. I walk into the bathroom like I'm on a mission. And girl, whatever I did with that makeup, did not make me look younger.

I don't know what I looked like, but it was borderline scary. Even my reflection looked concerned, and that's when I just started laughing like, what am I doing? Am I prepping for the Met Gala or just trying to look a little less tired? Picking up groceries, ladies, seriously, when did it become normal to need 25 brushes just to apply [00:03:00] concealer?

Here's the thing. If you love doing full glam, you ladies look beautiful. That is amazing 'cause you enjoy doing that. But if you're like me just trying to find simple ways to feel a little fresher without a full Sephora in your bathroom, you're not alone. This season of life is about trying, laughing, failing, and still showing up.

No pressure, just progress. Even if it comes with a glittery mess. And one confused cheekbone. With that said, I just had to share that with y'all. I thought it'd be fun.

This was a segment of "Top Down, Heart Open", and unfiltered podcast for women in midlife navigating transition and rediscovery. I'm Kimberly Maturin, your host. And that was today's mini monument. Just a small moment, but one that matters. Thanks for riding with me. If it made you smile, think or feel a little less alone, please share this with someone else who might need it.

And don't forget to follow the show. Leave a quick review or email [00:04:00] me topdownheartopen@gmail.com. I'd love to hear your stories too. Until next time. Take a deep breath, roll those windows down and keep your heart open. You are exactly where you're meant to be. This is our road now, and you don't have to drive it alone.

Thanks for listening. Until next time, take care.
